The months had passed and many of them had learned English language. Lloyd was even able to pick up a few words of the Jellicle's language. Each cathuman had their own personality and there was an arguement or two, but for the most part they got along well. Lloyd noticed that the kittens grew much faster than human children did. He even ventured to guess that they grew twice as fast. The only time any of them had cause to fight was when Macavity took notice of Demeter. He had approached her and began to talk to her. She seemed interested at first, but soon began to avoid him instead as he tended to have a violent nature. The silver tabby, Munkustrap, and the brown, gold and white tom, Alonzo, went to her aid as Macavity showed that he didn't like being turned down. When he saw the other two toms approach, he had lifted his hands and backed off. Lloyd wondered if that was the end of it, though.

Lloyd could see that Deuteronomy was the leader of this tribe and that Munkustrap was shaping up to be the second in command. After Munkustrap, Lloyd thought that Rum Tum Tugger would have been third in command, but he seemed to be more interested in the queens than responsibility half the time. So, it would seem that Alonzo could shape up to be the third in command. Macavity was the loner of the tribe. Well, not always. There were three cathumans who seemed to head in his direction to chat more often than not- Porpentine, Cockalorum, and Cus Cus. Sometimes, however, Lloyd wondered if Macavity was ready to challenge Deuteronomy as leader. He supposed that because Macavity wasn't exactly popular, the tom knew better than to out and out challenge Deuteronomy. Lloyd could tell that the ginger tom was cunning.

Growltiger, Grumbuskin, Cat Morgan, Ghengis, Griddlebone, and Tumblebrutus all took turns at keeping watch for ships who might come close enough to light the bonfire. Deut had to make sure that Growltiger and Ghengis didn't work on the same shift as the two didn't seem to get along too well. Tumble really didn't do much since he was so young, but Cat Morgan looked after him and took him with him on his shifts since the young kitten wanted so much to be a part of the watch team.

Other friendships formed as well. The kittens, Electra and Etecetera, were on their way to being best friends. Jellylorum tended to look after Gus. Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer seemed to like to cause a little trouble together here and there. Lloyd wondered sometimes if Mungo was one of the small crowd to occasianlly hang out with Macavity, but he really didn't see him with the ginger tom very often. Jennyanydots seemed to be the surrogate mother of all the younger Jellicles. No one knew who was a mother or father to any of the kittens since all the kittens were found in rooms alone or with other kittens, no adults. Lloyd tried to remember as much as he could since he had run out of paper to write on long ago. He and Deut were often together trying to decipher the hyroglyphics and the small community of 51 (including himself) seemed to be faring well on this island out in the middle of nowhere.

Partly for entertainment of the Jellicles and partly to satisfy his curiousity of the feline side of them, he and Deut organized the Jellicle Games. The first of which was a foot race. Out of all the toms that raced, Tugger came in first followed quickly by Mungojerrie and then Cockalorum. Of the queens that raced, Bombalurina came in first, followed by Cassandra and then Rumpleteazer. In the jumping contest, no one came even close to how high Macavity jumped. He had jumped so high that it almost looked as if he could levitate! In second place for the toms was RumpusCat and then Mistoffelees. For the queens, Wiskuscat jumped the highest and then Demeter and Cus Cus.

When a wrestling match was organized, Lloyd, Deut and some of the others became nervous as Munkustrap and Macavity were paired up. The two seemed quite determined to win. Alonzo wanted to jump into the match, but was told not to interfere. Finally, Macavity was able to get just the right edge and pinned Munkustrap to the ground. Deut and Lloyd had to order Macavity to release him, however as the ginger tom seemed to be enjoying his victory a little too much. With that win, Macavity came in first, Munkustrap second and Alonzo third.

The queens wanted to start a wrestling match as well, but they were interrupted by Tumblebrutus who had been on watch with Cat Morgan. They had spotted a ship!
